About This Site
Purpose Of The NQHS-1965 Website
This website exists solely to provide a means whereby the Classmates & Friends of the North Quincy High School ~ Class Of 1965 may collaborate in the goals of maintaining contact and friendship and also facilitating a successful 45th Reunion and subsequent such events.
While the present, short-term objective is the searching out of as many Classmates & Friends that we can find for the 45th Reunion, this website will remain intact after that event and continue to be a "home" for the NQHS Class of '65.
If you are a Classmate or Friend of the NQHS Class of '65, and haven't already done so, please register with us [or update the information that we have about you] here.
Non-Commercial And Non-Profit Orientation
There is no commercial aspect to this website and we have no profit goals whatsoever. All of the effort and expense to build and maintain this website has been donated and all of the members of the 45th Reunion Team happily donate their time to make all of this a success.
Privacy Policy
Other then what is shown in the Directory, all of the information gathered about Classmates & Friends will be used only to facilitate communication with them about the updates that occur to this website and about reunion type events. That communication will be done by traditional emails and via the USPS for those that are offline. We will not share any of this information with any third party. And we will not share your information with another Classmate or Friend without your prior permission.
The Directory was designed to display certain personal information in an abbreviated form. This approach allows each person listed in the Directory to determine that the information that we have about them is current without us revealing what it is. The database that contains all of these details is not stored on any web-accessible server, making it virtually hack-proof. Also, we do not allow direct access to view or update this complete database by anyone other then the 45th Reunion Team.
All changes to this database are initiated by Classmates & Friends via the forms on the Contact Us page and they are manually reviewed for accuracy and reasonableness prior to being applied to the database.
Many ask why we request your cell phone number: In our efforts to find Classmates & Friends for the 45th Reunion we'll expend many hundreds of hours trying to locate people that we have either no address for, or no email address, or the email address is now invalid, or they have moved, or changed their home phone number or their name has changed, etc.
With almost 600 people that we're trying to stay in contact with, this is an enormous undertaking. Cell phone numbers are unique: almost everyone has one and it almost always stays with them while they move, change emails, change names, etc. We would use your cell phone number for just one purpose: only when we are organizing a major event, such as a reunion, and then only when all other methods to reach you have failed. Period!
If you have any questions about this site and your privacy or if you don't want your information displayed in the Directory, please contact us here. We'll do whatever it takes to ease your concerns.
We're Not Trying To Compete With Social Networking Websites
Many Classmates & Friends are on one or more sites like Facebook, Classmates.com, etc. However, as of 02-20-2010 only 37% of the 560+ in the Directory are on one of these sites [and have also indicated some affinity to the NQHS Class of '65].
Many folks are leery of social networking sites, privacy issues, etc. Also, many of these sites charge members for even basic email type communication. Our goal with NQHS-1965.org is to provide a place where Classmates & Friends can just simply register and where we can communicate with them. The registration would be kept private [other than what is shown on the Directory and even that can be suppressed if you'd like] and the communication would be both infrequent and relevant to only important NQHS Class of '65 events.
However, for those who don't have an aversion to joining a social network site, they do offer many benefits such as making contact with old friends easy, staying in touch, discussion boards, etc.
Our Facebook Group
We've established a Group on Facebook [the NQHS - Class Of 1965 Group] to facilitate this. It is a private Group, meaning someone must request to join it and that request must be approved by us. It also means that the content of the Group can be seen only by the Group members. We chose Facebook as the site to host our Group as it is unquestionably the most popular social networking site and it has great features and functionality and it is all free.
And while we can do some things better here at NQHS-1965.org, we'll not attempt to duplicate the things done better at Facebook. The connecting of friends, discussions boards, etc. run best there. Our Directory, the Manet 1965 page, and some video and albums work best here at NQHS-1965.org. Depending upon how many Classmates & Friends join our Facebook Group and how Facebook evolves over time, things may migrate from here to there.
We haven't done much with the Facebook Group to date as we've been focused on locating people for the Reunion, but we ask that all Classmates & Friends join the Group here. If you have any questions about how this Group on Facebook works, contact us here.
The 45th Reunion Team
We are very early on in the Reunion planning process right now, just securing a place and date and starting to locate Classmates & Friends. Ricky Goldstein and Bill O'Connell [who, with others, were key to organizing the 42nd Reunion] are working on the early plans. Kevin Galvin has been working on the website, database, Directory and on techniques for locating lost Classmates & Friends.
We'll be looking for additional help as the time nears - mostly on the night of the Reunion - and several people have offered already and are on our list. We'll let everyone know what we need and when.
But most of all we need help now in locating lost Classmates & Friends. We're looking for folks with moderate experience in searching for things on the Internet and we'll provide you with detailed instructions on how to do this. If you'd like to assist, contact us here. Thanks!
