March 10, 2011 ~ He's BACK-K-K-K !!!
Hey, It's only been 4 months... To sum it all up, yours truly just got way behind on a lot of things that had been put aside during the summer of 2010 while working on 45th Reunion stuff - and is now just coming up for air!
So, we're going to pickup right where we left-off and continue on as if nothing had happened. The things that we promised to do: the pictures from the 45th put on this website, the yearbook published too, the implementation of Facebook for the Class of '65 [controversy and all], etc. will all get done, just a little late...
With this update today, we show [here] the latest results of the 45th Reunion survey, of which we received 97 responses - thank you all as we think that was a terrific [42%] response! There were many great comments and suggestions that will provide excellent guidance in our forth-coming activities! Read all of the comments made on the survey here. We'll be responding to the specific questions in those comments over the next few weeks and contacting those who indicated that they wanted to be contacted.
If you haven't taken the survey and would like too, please do so here. If you aren't sure whether you have or have not taken the survey, ask us here.
The next installment will be the posting of the pictures from the 45th Reunion. We've received a lot of comments and concerns about posting these pictures, ranging from people not wanting their face shown at all, to not caring at all what we do [and just about everything in between]. So, after thinking about this quite a bit, we've determined that the best approach would be to allow each person to indicate what they want done for themselves, which is one on these three things:
Show their full name in all pictures [we'll use their name as in school].
Don't show their name at all in any picture.
Blur their face in all pictures.
The above applies only to the pictures from the 45th Reunion. That is, older reunion group photos, the yearbook, etc. [everything before the 45th Reunion] will not be so annotated/adjusted. Everyone in those pictures will be named, using their full name as in school.
As you may imagine, doing this is not going to be much fun [one of the reasons we've hibernated for 4 months], but we feel that everyone's privacy concerns need to be honored. Watch for an email about this in the coming weeks.
November 10, 2010 ~ 45th Reunion Survey Results ~ Reunion Directory & Pictures
To date we've had a total of 94 responses [41%] to our survey - which is really very good - with 22 coming in since we sent the reminder a couple of weeks ago. The latest results are shown here.
We've received several corrections to the Directory and more pictures as well. Hopefully, we'll get all of this posted in the next few weeks.
October 24, 2010 ~ 45th Reunion Survey Results ~ Reunion Directory & Pictures
To date we've had a total of 72 responses [31%] to our survey - which is pretty good. Overall, the response and comments were very positive and you can see the latest results here.
We're going to send an email reminder to everyone asking a response from those who have not done so and these results will be updated periodically until the responses stop [~ November, 15]. At that time, the comments made on the survey will be posted here.
Of the 72 responses, 8 were from the 32 folks that we are in contact with that are Offline. We mailed them the survey with a pre-addressed, postage-paid envelope to send it back in. I don't know if we should waste any more postage trying to get a response from the other 24...
If there's any interest, we could do some correlations [a correlation would be: Of the people who answered one question this way, how did they answer some other question, or even all the other questions]. Let us know what you might like to see.
From all the responses there wasn't a single correction to the final Directory, but we'll wait for the responses from the reminder before publishing it.
The pictures from the reunion are in the works [sorry for the delay as I know many folks want to see these, but it's a busy time of the year for some of us right now]. We've received ~250-275 pictures and a few videos so far. Do you have any? Let us know here.
October 1, 2010 ~ 45th Reunion Survey Results [Preliminary]
Preliminary results of the 45th Reunion Survey can be seen here. This is intended right now just to show what it will look like and test the process of getting the numbers posted. There's only 17 responses so far - too little for meaningful interpretation...
September 27, 2010 ~ Survey In The Works ~ Photos Coming ~ Updated Directory Coming
We're asking everyone with whom we have had contact to take part in a survey on the 45th Reunion. They should all receive a request to participate over the next few days an if you don't receive one by Friday, October 1, 2010 and thought you should have, please let us know here.
Note: While the survey is executed from this website, you won't find it here. You must initiate it from the email you receive from us that invites you.
We're still looking for pictures! If you took photos at the Reunion please let us know here - everyone is asking for them!
The final Directory of the 45th Reunion is in the works and it should be posted here in a week or two.
September 13, 2010 ~ Oh, What A Night!

Survey And More Details Coming...
We'll be sending out a survey in a week or two to get your feedback about the night, which will be used as input for our 50th [or maybe sooner] get together. And we'll post a final Directory of Attendees for the 45th, one that you can download and print.
September 3, 2010 ~ Missing & Undecided Classmates Short List ~ Reminders And Instructions Sent ~ Brunch Announced
The Missing & Undecided Classmates Short List has been working really well as we've had 14 people commit to the Reunion in the past 3 days. We now have 180 attending. Take a look at the list here and let us know if you can help with anyone. We're running out of time and need to locate Lost Classmates in the next couple of days.
We still have ~50 people who have heard about the Reunion from us and haven't decided yet. There is no admission to the Reunion for those who commit before September 5th, then it's $15/person at the door.
We've also sent final reminders to everyone we have connected with over the last 9 months. Those who are attending also received instructions about name tags, guests and other details.
We're announcing a Brunch to be served at the Adams Inn the morning after the 45th Reunion. This is open to all who attend the Reunion and also to the folks who could not make it due to some other commitment.
For more information and to sign-up, go here. We're limit to 60 people in the room - so first come, first served.
August 30, 2010 ~ Directory Updated ~ Missing & Undecided Classmates Short List ~ Reminders And Instructions Coming Soon
The Directory has been updated and now shows that we have 164 people committed to coming to the 45th Reunion and 30 'maybes'.
With less than 2 weeks to the 45th Reunion, we're starting to focus on making sure it's clear about who is and isn't attending. So we've created an easy to read Short List [well, it's kind of long] of people who are either undecided about coming are in-process or are still missing. About 50 of these people have either told someone they were coming, but didn't tell us [haven't registered] or have given us a 'maybe'. The rest are people who we are currently chasing but haven't reached yet or are the ones we can't find at all. Please take a few minutes and look through this list as explained here.
This week we'll be sending reminders to everyone we've Linked with and we'll include details about the Reunion, directions, food choices, etc.
August 12, 2010 ~ Directory Updated ~ Lost Classmates Progress Report ~ Viewing Quincy ~ Comments From Classmates
The latest update of the Directory shows we have 133 people committed to coming to the 45th Reunion. Great work by our Super-Sleuths!
And the work goes on:
We have a lot of people in the works right now with our Super-Sleuths looking for phone numbers for those we haven't yet contacted and chasing new numbers for the ones we've tried that didn't work.
We have a verified email or mailing address now for 181 [36%] of the possible attendees. 155 of those have responded with their intent about the Reunion.
There are 208 people 'In-Works' which are the ones we are trying to contact right now, most via telephone.
We have just 63 people we haven't yet found a way of contacting, which is just amazing! Our Super-Sleuths have been doing a fabulous job in finding people! And we're not giving up on that 63, either.
In a week or so, we're going to publish a list of everyone that we've been unable to reach and send it to everyone we've 'Linked' with, asking them for any info they may have on them.
And... all of you 33 'maybes' out there: what are you waiting for? It is FREE, you know - what do we have to do to get you to come, pay you? [just kidding... we know you probably have good reasons].
We'll continue to chase people right up until a couple of days before the Reunion. Our logic is this: if they have a commitment for that night, they already have it, meaning they are unavailable no matter when we find them. But if they don't have a commitment, they could most likely attend even with a very short notice.
We're starting to add some additional features to this site - we now have instructions on how to view Quincy using Google Maps & Bing Maps. Those who no longer live in the area can see their old stomping grounds and the street they grew up on [well maybe not, as lots of things have changed]. Click on the Photos link at the top of this page, then on the Viewing Quincy link once there.
Joan Ronayne just sent us the NQHS ~ 50th Anniversary ~ Souvenir Booklet which provides a great history of North. You can view it here.
And we've collected some of the comments we've received from Classmates about the great job our Super-Sleuths have done in tracking down people for the 45th Reunion. Read them here.
July 31, 2010 ~ Directory Updated ~ Lost Classmates Progress Report
The Directory has been republished and we have 111 people now who are committed to attending the 45th Reunion or have implied they will attend. The jump has been due solely to the efforts of our Super-Sleuths who are getting into full-swing right now [with Rose Doherty as the current leader of the pack]. There's 50-75 emails a day on this end just keeping the Directory up-to-date.
We also have a lot of 'maybes' [38] and it's a little hard to read what will happen to these. Our rough experience to-date has been that when a 'maybe' has been finalized, it's about 50/50 'yes' and 'no'. So if that holds up, 19 of the maybes will attend and they will bring 6 guests. But we're not counting them yet...
We currently have ~60 phone numbers of Lost Classmates that haven't been called yet, and we still need help with calling - if you have a couple hours, let us know here.
July 24, 2010 ~ Directory Updated ~ New Status On Directory ~ Lost Classmates Progress Report
The Directory has been republished as of today's activity. We have 95 people who are committed to attending or have implied they will attend.
There has been a major shift in the Status of many people, which you can see if you look the Recap sheet of the Directory. Most of these changes are due to the major effort in the past few weeks by our Super-Sleuths in locating Lost Classmates. The key numbers are:
We have 248 Lost Classmates In-Works - this is the work being done by our Super-Sleuths right now.
There's now only 75 people we don't have some Contact information on and we'll continue chasing these folks down. This is huge milestone - meaning that as of today we have information that will enable us to contact over 85% of the 512 possible attendees.
The jump in the number of people Attending [from 77 to 95] includes just 9 from the Super-Sleuthing that's going on right now [most of the efforts of finding people have not been reported back yet and have not been reflected in the Directory as of today].
We've added a new Status to the Directory of No-Reply which reflects the people that we have contacted but they have not replied after 14 days. We've implemented this at this time as these are the folks we'll need to chase as we get closer to the 45th Reunion.
The Lost Classmate project is in full swing with 12 Super-Sleuths in the process of calling over 160 people. And since those 160 were assigned to the Callers last week, our Locaters have found phone numbers on another ~85 which will be assigned to Callers this week. We'll continue to try to Locate the 75 we have No-Contact information on, which is getting harder an harder to do. Most of these are our "lost maidens" - females where all we have is their maiden name as in the Yearbook.
Rose Doherty and Linda Davis have reported early positive results from their Calling efforts [and having fun talking with old friends] but it's too early to try to predict what we'll yield from this project. Perhaps in another week or two we'll stick our neck out.
Our unpublished goal has been 200 people attending the 45th Reunion. Being almost halfway there today and with 50 days to go and the enormous amount of work in progress right now, we have a shot at it!
July 11, 2010 ~ Lost Classmates Progress Report ~ 2 Month Reminder To Be Sent ~ Admission Price Set
The Locate phase has moved along quite well, even though we haven't yet employed all that have volunteered for this phase. We're now going to start the Calling phase for the phone numbers we've collected to date, as we don't want to wait to find everyone first before we start calling. While some volunteers will be Calling, others will continue to Locate.
As we did in the Locating phase, we'll start the Calling phase with just a couple of volunteers to get any kinks out, which should take just a few of days, and then roll it out to others.
Here's some statistics and comments on the Lost Classmate project as of today:
There are 414 possible attendees that we not yet 'Linked' with [100 that we have].
Of the 414, we have contact information on 283 [an email, phone number, friend, etc].
The Locate phase of finding Lost Classmates has so far yielded 157 phone numbers [and 26 unlisted numbers who we'll be sending post cards]. The Locating phase will continue until we've found everyone possible [there's 131 we have no way yet to contact - the toughest ones being females where we have only their maiden names].
We'll be calling these 157 over the next week and hope to also Locate another 100 or so in the next couple of weeks.
Some of these statistics are available on the Recap sheet of the Directory while others are not. Here's are a couple of interesting ones:
105 people [including guests] attended the 25th Reunion - we'll beat that number within a couple of days with what's in process right now.
Only 5% of those that we have connected with [Linked] have said 'No', 23% of them have said 'Maybe'.
33% of the Classmates coming to the 45th have never attended a Class of 1965 reunion before.
26% of the people coming to the 45th are bringing a guest.
Of the 62 people that are on Classmates.com that we haven't connected with yet, 80% haven't even looked at the message we've sent them. These are obviously very good prospects and they are at the top of our calling priority.
We'll be sending the 2 month reminder to all that have registered with us on this website [Linked status] and again prod the 23 that haven't yet indicated their intention of attending the Reunion to do so.
The 45th Reunion Team has announced the admission charge to the 45th Reunion: it's free to all who register! Several of our Classmates have offered to foot all of the costs for the facilities, this website and everything else. You'll be responsible only for your own arranged dinner and the cash bar at the Reunion.
However, please register if you plan to attend, because if we get close to capacity of the facility we will issue tickets only to those who have registered and others will be turned away at the door! And, in any case, those who haven't registered by September 5, 2010 will be charged $15/person at the door.
As always, if you have any ideas or suggestions, please let us know here.
July 6, 2010 ~ Directory Updated ~ Major Effort To Find Classmates Underway
The Directory was updated today with all of the changes accumulated over the last 3 weeks. We have a new coding in the 45th? Column in the Directory of 'implied' - these are folks that have communicated through someone that they are attending the 45th Reunion, but haven't formally registered as yet. And these are counted on the Recap as Attending.
We have all of the procedures in place to contact missing Classmates & Friends and that effort has already started with a couple of our Super-Sleuths. We'll have all of our Super-Sleuths involved in the next couple of days. We hope in the next couple of weeks to make contact [call] all the folks that we locate. The timing is just about right...
June 16, 2010 ~ Directory Updated ~ Starting Push To Find Classmates ~ Hotel Group Code Available ~ High School Sweetheart Update
The Directory was updated today with all of the changes accumulated over the last 2 weeks. We now have 71 folks committed to attending the Reunion with 18 'maybes'.
Most of the effort spent since the last update has been preparing for the Super-Sleuths to do their job - and some will be starting in a day or two. We have about ~450 people that have either not been contacted at all or have been contacted and have not replied. We have varying degrees of information about these folks, ranging from having some address and phone numbers to having only what we found in the yearbook.
We've built a simple scoring model that looks at all of the information we have about people and ranks them with a probability of attending. We'll chase the highest ranked people the hardest as they are the most likely to attend the Reunion should we find them. We have 10 folks helping us find missing Classmates & Friends and please let us know if you would like to help out - it's pretty easy and kind of fun!
Hopefully, in about a week or so we'll start to see some results. A group that scores really low is the ~125 females that we have no information about other than their name as in school. Without a current last name these are going to be very hard to locate. What we're testing right now is using Classmates.com to find people who have the same last name as the ones we're missing and who went to NQHS in any year. Perhaps these will be a brother/sister or other relative that can provide us with clues.
For those booking a room at the Adams Inn, the Group Code to obtain a special rate can be found here.
We just received a current picture and bio of our latest High School Sweethearts, Linda Carroll & Dave MacDougall, and we'll be putting that up this week. They're both coming from Virginia to attend our 45th. Dave's bio says he is a volunteer zoo keeper, which may come in handy at the Reunion.
May 27, 2010 ~ Where Has He Been? You Ask...
Getting everything started on this end - like building this website, the databases behind it, the 750+ emails we've sent/received - has consumed us during the first quarter of this year and a lot of other things got pushed aside, and they finally needed attention. We're all caught-up now on that other stuff and are ready to get going again!
And while this site hasn't being updated regularly, we did keep current on all correspondence and have communicated with over 30 people since our last update, with about a dozen folks committing to come to the Reunion [and a bunch of 'maybes', too] - which is great news! Even better is that these people surfaced on their own [that is, without us probing them] from our postings all over the web announcing the Reunion and by contacts from people that we've already connected with, like yourself. That response bodes well for the future...
And the best news is that we have all of what we need in place and we're ready for the next big push, which will be to make an all-out effort to find as many people as we can. So look for the Directory to be updated in the next couple of days, more photos, etc to be added to this site and announcements about our next steps!
April 4, 2010 ~ Working On Classmates.com Issues ~ Strategy To Find Lost Classmates ~ No Directory Update
We found a problem on Classmates.com where someone established North Quincy Junior High School in error and ~800 people registered with that school. There are just a dozen or so from the Class of '65 and we'll contact them directly. We notified Classmates.com about this problem and also left a note on the Message Board at that school and NQHS and also at all of the major Groups for NQHS on Facebook.
There are other data integrity issues with Classmates.com that we have stumbled upon as well [like people being the 1965 class, but when you pull them up they are in some other school and year; like the NQHS Class of 1965 member list saying there are ~175 members, but there are only ~125 names listed - it's things like that make you wonder what we're working with.
We said a few weeks ago that we tried to find an updated NQHS Alumni Directory, but now find there isn't one available. So we're going to have to proceed with data that is about 8 years old. Our guesstimate is that we could find as many as 50% of our 'No-Contact' status people that way. This Directory can also work for 50% of those who now have a different last name.
Though I haven't told her yet, Chrissy DeLuca sent us a scan of something that is of very significant value: the 1965 Graduation Program [she's sent us a bunch of stuff that we haven't put up yet]. Why is this Program so important? Because it has the middle name, or at least the middle initial, of everyone that graduated - this information isn't in the yearbook or anywhere else. This will be very helpful in finding males and also females that have either never married or took back their maiden name [there are maiden name search engines too].
We tried a search using the Graduation Program: we picked a name at random [below], we didn't specify a state [so the entire country was searched] and specified an approximate age of 63. In 2 seconds, the search returned our man - and at the top of the list, too.
That search engine will charge for more details on Ken and they try to intentionally fog things up to get you to pay for it. But we could take what we learn there [what state Ken lives in] and go to another search engine [as shown below] and get Ken's phone number or perhaps his email address for no charge. Note: Ken's personal information, like address and phone number, etc was erased by us from the image below.
The more common the name the least accurate this search is, but you'd be surprised that even with 300 million people in the country, there will only be a few that have the same first AND middle AND last names AND be about 63 years of age. BTW, 55% of NQHS grads live in Massachusetts.
So this is the kind of thing our Super-Sleuths will be doing and thank you Chrissy for making it much easier!
We're going to need more Super-Sleuths, so please volunteer if you can help. You'll be doing the above kind of work and it will be easy because we'll pull all of the data together for you and tell you exactly what to do. If we get enough people to help it will only take a few hours each.
And the Super-Sleuth doesn't have to contact the people that they find if they don't want to. We can just pass on that information to someone else who will. Let us know here if you want to be a searcher, a caller or both. Thank you!
We didn't update our Directory this week due to very little activity. We've been working on how we're going to find people.
March 29, 2010 ~ Little Activity This Week
The 45th Reunion Team has been off on other projects this week and little time was spent on this website. The Directory has not been republished as the only activity since is was last published is that William "Oakie" O'Connell has indicated he'll be attending the 45th Reunion.
March 24, 2010 ~ Past Reunion Photo Pages Loaded
The pages for each of the past Reunions have been created, but there isn't a ton of pictures on them as yet. These pages were structured to be consistent in layout and to accommodate the insertion of photographs and other materials as they become available. One of the first things we'll load to them will be Jill Hutton's and Ricky Goldstein's albums of the 42nd Reunion. These photos are currently on Classmates.com. We also have the programs for the 20th and 25th Reunions, which will go up soon as well.
If you have any pictures or other materials from these reunions please let us know here.
Some folks might ask why we put these pictures on this website instead of on the Facebook Group where members could make comments, etc - which is a very good question - and we may put some of these photos there also, just for that purpose. But there are two major reasons why we're putting all this content on this website instead of on Facebook:
Firstly, while there is a somewhat easy way to make a backup of all of the things one adds to a Facebook page, there's no way [at this writing] to load it back onto Facebook should you need to.
So for example, if after spending lots and lots of time building our NQHS ~ Class Of 1965 Facebook Group, if for some reason it should suddenly disappear - as it has been reported that from time to time, they do - we'd have to start all over again building it from scratch, which is something that would definitely not be very exciting...
Secondly, and perhaps much more importantly, is what our long-term plan is about managing this website. Over the next few months we hope to fill in a lot of the blanks that now exist on these pages as we receive content from our Classmates & Friends [as these new past Reunion pages have been so structured].
Later this year after the 42nd Reunion, we'll load all of the photos and video, etc from that event onto this website. Then we'll make the technical changes to this website so it can run from your hard drive [it will look and run exactly like it does when you view it here now, online] and then everyone who attends the 45th Reunion will get a copy of it for free - you'll just have to download it - and you'll have your own copy of this entire website, forever!
March 20, 2010 ~ Reunion Photos Preview ~ Liz Breslin Becomes A Super-Sleuth
We just saw a preview of group photos from the 10th and 20th Reunions that Rose Doherty recently dug up and we'll post them as soon as they arrive ... the 10th is really cool - wait until you see the dudes with the long hair, stashes and the leisure suits! ... we talked with Liz Breslin today and she offered to be a Super-Sleuth ... thanks Liz! Does anyone have the handout from the 10th Reunion? We have the 20th and 25th. How about the group photo of the 25th?
March 19, 2010 ~ Lots Of Visits To Our Website
This picture shows the visits to our website by state since the first of the year. We've been visited from 22 states [those in green], and people in MA have visited the most with 551, followed by FL with 44 [snowbirds?], then NY with 43, CA with 40, MI with 17 and the rest scattered across 17 other states. We've also been visited from Brazil [30 times], the United Kingdom and Germany
March 15, 2010 ~ Another Pair Of High School Sweethearts Surface ~ Disappointing Classmates.com Response ~ Some Bright Spots
We've been contacted by a second pair of High School Sweethearts and we're working on their story now - it will be up as soon as we get the details.
Over the last few weeks we contacted ~65 people on Classmates.com that indicated that they were a member on the Class of '65 and also are folks we hadn't yet connected with. The Classmates.com policy says that a Gold member [a paid membership] may read messages from anyone and anyone can read a message from a Gold member [which we are].
After two weeks only 7 of these ~65 have replied, 2 have only read the message, and 56 of these people haven't even read the message yet, which is a little disappointing because these folks are our best prospects for the Reunion. So we have no idea when we'll hear from these people. The bright spot is that almost half that read the message said they would attend the Reunion.
Also, there are ~40 people that have registered with us but have not yet been asked about attending the Reunion [we're going to ask them in the next week]. Of the other that 48 that have registered and have been asked, only 3 have said 'no' - which is very encouraging. You can see all of these statistics on the Recap page of the Directory.
Ricky Goldstein found a CD based directory of NQHS alumni that was current as of 2002. It provides address, phone, etc for Classmates and after a quick glance looks to have information on about 75% of the Class of '65 members, however it is 8+ years old. We've contacted the company that produced this to see if there's an updated version and we should know in a few days. If there isn't, we'll go with what we have and let our Super-Sleuths loose on them.
We received a lot of content for the website from Chrissy DeLuca and Ricky Goldstein and hope to get it up in the next couple of weeks, and the online version of The Manet is progressing as well.
March 4, 2010 ~ High School Sweethearts Page Added
We launched the High School Sweethearts page, featuring Sharon Caruso & Jack Whitehouse. We think there's 10 or so other couples out there - let's hear from you!
March 1, 2010 ~ Many Contacts Made This Week ~ High School Sweethearts Page Coming
This week we've contacted ~50 people for the first time. These were folks that we knew about [they are on Facebook and Classmates.com, etc] but we just hadn't got to them yet.
We also contacted ~50 people for the second time. These consisted of those on Facebook and Classmates.com that didn't respond to a prior contact and also about a dozen people that we had emails from the 42nd Reunion and who also did not reply to our first contact.
And there are ~50 people that we'll contact this week that we have a lead on: another ~25 on Classmates.com and the rest scattered on MyLife, AlumniClass and others.
That leaves ~100 people that we have some information on, like an old address from the 20th or 25th Reunion handouts. But with them not being on any social networking site means we can't chase them in an automated way - we need to track them down. And then there's another ~200 the we have no information on at all.
These ~300 people are who we'll put our Super-Sleuth's onto. But we'll first wait to see what shakes out of the announcements we'll put out this week and next, and what leads we get from last week's and this week's contact activity. About 20% of the people we connect with come as referrals from the ones we just found. This isn't surprising as many people have maintained relationships since school.
We're going to need help chasing down these ~300 people. We have 5 people that have offered to help, we need at least 5 more [ideally 10 more]. To help you'll need to possess moderate Internet skills and if you are good at finding things using Google, you'll probably do well searching for people on these other sites. We'll provide a list of people for you to work on and also detailed instructions on what to do. Interested? Let us know here. If nothing else, you'll learn how to find people!
We've discovered there are about 10 couples that are together now that either met in high school or connected afterwards. We'll put together brief stories on these couples if they want to do it.
Miscellany: We've received a bunch more pictures from Chrissy DeLuca that we haven't put up yet and we're working on a great way to see Manet 1965 that will be really cool. Ricky Goldstein, Pete Caristi and Steve Kramer gave us info on the photo "Unidentified 004" and we'll get that together when we have time.
February 21, 2010 ~ 45th Reunion Details Posted ~ 'About This Site' Page Built ~ Big Change In Statistics
We've added the details about the 45th Reunion on the Announcements page and have also built the About This Site page that provides information about the NQHS-1965.org website that is useful to folks that visit here for the first time.
Using the information that Pat Dodd reworked from the 20th and 25th Reunion Handouts, we've been able to change the status of about 100 people on the Directory from No-Contact to Contact, meaning that before we loaded this information we knew nothing about them at all, to now having some means of potentially finding them. While the information from these handouts is 20+ years old, it's still very useful when doing searches on the Internet and certainly better than nothing at all.
For example: there are search websites where we could supply your name, age, and the city/town you used to live in and it will tell us where you currently live. However, after getting us hooked with that basic information, these sites would want to charge us for any additional information. But, we could take the information we just got from that site and go to another site and get your address and telephone for no charge.
We'll be launching a big push in March, 2010 to find our lost Classmates & Friends. If you want to help with this project, we're looking for folks with moderate experience in searching for things on the Internet and we'll provide you with detailed instructions on how to do this. If you'd like to assist, contact us here.
February 15, 2010 ~ Information Added To Directory
We added a lot of details to the Directory which we gleaned from the 20th and 25th Reunion Handouts. This unverified information is shown with a trailing ? on each field, like Smith?, meaning we don't know if it is current or not. Pat Dodd did a terrific job in getting this data to a point that we could import it into the Directory.
We're ready now to announce the Reunion in all of the places that we can think of and we'll publish a list in a week or so and ask if anyone can think of other places.
February 8, 2010 ~ A Number Of Changes To The Website...
The Forms that are used for communicating all additions and updates to the database [which is then used to produce the Directory] have been completed and tested. These Forms allow people to enter information into clearly defined fields on the screen, and when they are sent to us, they are manually reviewed and then the changes are updated to the database.
There are forms for different purposes and you can click on the Contact Us link to see what they are. Completing this phase will allow us to proceed to the major phase: announcing the 45th Reunion to everyone and asking all to indicate their likelihood of attending. We'll describe the announcement phase in about a week.
Unfortunately, these forms are rather detailed. But having this information correctly on our database is critical to the success of this website and the 45th Reunion. We've sent and received over 550 emails to date and have a firm connection with just 67 people. Using these forms going forward will greatly reduce that volume.
The Directory now has a new Tab showing all Classmates & Friends presented in descending sequence of the date of the Last Contact with them. If you're interested in keeping track of the changes that happen to the Directory, this provides an easy way to do that. Here's how: each time you review the Contact listing make a note of the date in the first row of the Contact column. Then, when you come back next time you can easily see all of the changes that have occurred since that date.
Other changes to the Directory include two new columns for the indication of what Address and Phone we have in the database. Like the Email Address, these are in an abbreviated form which allows people to verify what we have without us revealing it. For the Address we show just the Street number or PO Box number. For the Phone we show just the last four digits.
Another change on the Directory is on the Recap Tab, where at the bottom we now show a Chronology of the totals for each of the Statuses, by week.
And the Page column on the Directory has had a minor change to show those who didn't graduate with the class, but attended for some years. So, for example, a G 9-11 in this column means this person was with the Class Of 1965 for those grades.
February 5, 2010 ~ Great News About The Yearbook Pages!
Yesterday, Lynne Goodman lent us a pristine, unmarked copy of the Yearbook! She was on Manet 1965 Committee at North and kept this extra copy all these years. This means that when we build the pages on the website for the Yearbook they will be perfect, unmarked images. Lots of folks are excited about this as their copy of Manet 1965 is missing. She also still had the handouts from the 20th and 25th Reunions, which we'll put up when we have time. Thank you, Lynne!!!
When things quiet down [in a few weeks] we'll ask everyone to send us things they may have that would be a good addition to the photo pages.
January 30, 2010 ~ Started Building The Photo Pages...
The Photos page has been started with a handful of Class Photos, etc. We'll be adding to this as time allows.
We're also going to put the entire Yearbook online as many people have told us that they've misplaced theirs. We're going to start with the Fellowship pages and link those to the names that are in the Directory. We'll add the other sections of Manet 1965 over time.
January 23, 2010 ~ Website starting to take shape...
The last 3 weeks have been spent building a database of all of the Classmates & Friends of the Class Of 1965. We started with the Yearbook to find all of the Classmates [thanks Rose Doherty for all the keying] and then we searched all of the popular social networking websites, such as Facebook, Classmates.com, MyLife, AlumniClass, etc. to add any Friends.
We also had been collecting email addresses on this site since the 42th Reunion [actually that's all this site did until January, 2010] and we pulled together other emails being collected by Ricky Goldstein and others.
This database is the basis of maintaining communication with all of our Classmates & Friends and is presented in a Directory type format and can be viewed via the Directory page of this site. We'll be updating the remaining pages on this site over the next couple of weeks and an on-going basis.
Note that there is an Announcement of the 45th Reunion here, but we are not inviting folks yet [as we're not ready]. However, some folks are responding to an announcement on Classmates.com. Please wait for the invitation from this site as we're looking for additional information from you not asked by Classmates.com. But if you've already RSVP'd there that's okay - we'll just contact you later for the other info.
