Super-Sleuthing ~ Using Search Process "A"
This page provides the specific instructions for performing Search Process "A", a procedure invoked in the process of what we call Super-Sleuthing: the finding of our lost Classmates & Friends.
This Page Is Not Available To Everyone:
This page contains the instructions for our Super-Sleuths on how to find and contact our lost Classmates. While this page is a part of the NQHS-1965.org website, there is no direct link to this page from any other unrelated page on the website. The usual way you can get here is to use the link in the email that was sent to you.
You might find it easier to read this if you print it out. If you do print it, be aware that this page may be updated from time to time and you may need to reprint it when the date on what you have on paper is older that what is below. To print this page:
With Internet Explorer [IE], press the <Ctrl>+<P> keys, then click on the Options tab, then select All Frames Individually, then click Print.
With Firefox, press the <Ctrl>+<P> keys, then select Each Frame Separately, then click OK.
This page was last updated June 29, 2010.

Search Process "B" - [this procedure will be written later and inserted then].
Search Process "A"
Use these instructions only when the email you received with a batch indicates to use Search Process "A".
This is the easiest and perhaps most productive search procedure. We should find many males here and females if we know their married name, as well as females that never married and those that have taken back their maiden name.
We'll search for Classmates using the WhitePages.com website for each person in the mini-Directory. The following are some notes about using this website:
You don't need to register with them to use it.
There may be several or dozens [and maybe hundreds] of people that look like the Classmate we are looking for. The detailed steps below will tell you exactly what to do, but generally, when there's just several that look good, we want to get the phone numbers of all of them, and we'll call them all.
When we get too many possible matches for someone, we'll abandon this Search Process and use another more sophisticated one later.
When you click down to see the details about someone, there will be several links with names displayed that will take you to places like Facebook, Twitter, or some 'Sponsored Links' or to other such services promising to provide more information about the person you are searching for. Don't go to any of them as they will all cost money to get any information. We don't want any information about what you might find there either - you'll just be wasting your time...
Detailed Steps For Search Process "A"
Follow these instructions to perform Search Process "A":
Click on the link in the email we sent you to pull up the mini-Directory of the people you are to search for:
You'll see everything we know about these people that is relevant to this search. The address and phone number could be very dated and if they don't match a prospect, ignore it - that is, they may have simply moved.
To the right of these columns are fields for entry of phone numbers.
Except for the fields with a white background [the Telephone columns], don't change anything in the mini-Directory and don't add or remove any rows or columns either.
In your browser, go to the WhitePages.com website here. For ease of operation:
Press the {F11} function key to go to full screen mode for better viewing. {F11} again will turn this off.
Close all other tabs except for the mini-Directory and the WhitePages.com page.
You can change now easily toggle between the above two with {CTRL}+{TAB} keys.
 On the WhitePages.com page:
Click on the People tab near the top of the page.
Use the Find People block on this page.
If the Advanced link is bolded in the Find People block, click on Basic mode [that is, Basic should be bolded].
Now, follow Steps 1 thru 6 for each person in the mini-Directory:
Step 1: Put the following into the fields on the screen:
First Name: as it is in the mini-Directory.
Last Name: if there is a Current Last Name in the mini-Directory use it, else use the Last Name field in the mini-Directory.
City, State or ZIP: Key MA in the field. Very Important: Always start the search for each person with MA keyed in this field.
 Then, click on FIND.
Step 2: If you get one of the following messages:
0 results [this can happen with unusual names]:
That means that no one in Massachusetts met the search criteria.
 Go to Step 5.e, below.
Whoa! Over 100 Results Found [this can happen with common names]:
Leave the 5 Telephone fields blank and go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Step 3: Most of the time there will be a list of possible hits displayed, but sometimes it goes directly into a detailed display with the message 1 Result displayed. If you get this detailed display immediately, that's because there's only one possible match found - when this occurs, skip to Step 5.
Step 4: Browse through the list [and go to the additional pages, if any, with the NEXT button].
Step 5: Look for a match [or perhaps several matches] in the order below:
Step 5.a: If the street address OR the phone number matches what we have in the mini-Directory:
Get the phone number of just this one person [perform Step 6].
Put it into the first Telephone field even when it matches what's already on the database.
Go to go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Step 5.b: If the middle initial matches what we have in the mini-Directory AND the age range shown is [60-64]:
Get the phone numbers of all that match this condition [perform Step 6].
If you fill the 5 Telephone fields, stop and go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Step 5.c: If the middle initial matches what we have in the mini-Directory BUT the age range shown is NOT shown at all:
Get the phone numbers of all that match this condition [perform Step 6].
If you fill the 5 Telephone fields, stop and go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Step 5.d: If the age range shown is [60-64] AND the middle initial is missing on the mini-Directory OR missing on WhitePages.com:
Note: If they both have a middle initial and they don't agree ignore this person on WhitePages.com.
Get the phone numbers of all that match this condition [perform Step 6].
If you fill the 5 Telephone fields, stop and go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Step 5.e: Now, depending upon what's been done so far for this person, we'll either expand the search or quit:
If this is the first time you have arrived at this step for this person in the mini-Directory:
If you have put something in one or more of the Telephone fields for this person, go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory, otherwise:
Remove the MA from the City, State or ZIP field and then click FIND again:
If you get the message 0 results or Whoa! Over 100 Results Found, go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Otherwise, go to Step 3, above.
If this is the second time you have arrived at this step for this person in the mini-Directory:
Go to Step 1 for the next person in the mini-Directory.
Step 6: Unless you came directly to the detailed view for this person when you clicked on FIND, click on the person's name to get there:
Put the phone number you find there into the first empty 'Telephone' field in the format (nnn) nnn-nnnn [it's easiest to copy & paste it from WhitePages.com].
If the is no phone number displayed on WhitePages.com for this person, put UNLISTED in the phone number field. Do this each time this happens for a person.
Return to the Step you were on before you came here.
When You're Done With The Batch...
When you are done with the entire mini-Directory, reply to the email you received with the mini-Directory and just say that you are done. You don't have to save, close or attach anything on the mini-Directory.
